2,500 One Dollar Bills (1998-2003)

A simulation of the movement of cash from place to place across the United States and its territories. Although the simulation provides no traditional cartographic elements (no borders, no bodies of water, no cities), a map of America still manages to emerge - a map consisting solely of money.
Of course, money never moves simply for its own sake - it is carried and spent by individuals. For this reason, the stories embedded in the simulation range from tourism, to the drug trade, to quotidian exchanges at the supermarket.
