DVD Art

Vito Acconci DVD !!!

I made these DVD’s for Pirates & Hustlers. Each video can be downloaded off the internet, I burned them to DVD (with menu) and made very minor modifications, additions, or subtractions to every video. A couple of the DVD’s - Pablo Picasso and Sherrie Levine - are actually still works transformed into slideshows (with soundtracks and transitions) using the computer program, iDVD.

John Baldessari - This DVD is set to loop after it begins playing. I reversed the video but continued the audio track so that Baldessari keeps making art forever.

Sherrie Levine - A slideshow of Levine’s photographs of Walker Evans’ photographs, with page turn transitions and a rural guitar soundtrack. This DVD also loops.

Vito Acconci - A 10 second clip of Acconci pointing at the camera is played forward and in reverse and then set to loop.

Andy Warhol - Someone went to a screening of Andy Warhol’s Salvadore Dali screentest and released this shakey bootleg onto the internet. Some parts of the screentest are removed. This DVD also loops.

Robert Smithson - Smithson’s lecture on the Hotel Palenque was recently re-enacted during his retrospective by an audio track and an automated slideshow. Someone surreptitiously shot this remake and released it onto the internet, where I downloaded the video and created a DVD. No loop.

Yoko Ono - The titles are removed so there is an endless loop of bottoms.

Pablo Picasso - A slideshow using the “cube” transition and a tribal drum soundtrack. DVD loops.

Joseph Cornell - Rose Hobart was made entirely from existing film stock. This DVD has a nice vintage projector menu. No loop.

Marcell Duchamp - The titles are removed from Anemic Cinema and the DVD is looped so that the spiraling discs and double entendres never end (as long as the DVD player is playing).
