Homes for Australia still 1

Melbourne’s Pentridge Prison was decomissioned about 10 years ago after centuries as one of Australia’s most notorious penal facilities. It is currently in the process of being redeveloped as trendy housing (advertised with nudge-nudge campaigns like “Escape to Pentridge”).

This piece is a video-posing-as-slideshow of photographs I took in early 2007, while Pentridge was in the process of its transformation. If the serial logic of minimalism could be seen in the residential housing of the 1960’s, then Pentridge Village (presented in an imitation slideshow) speaks more to the contemporary logic of appropriation.
