SD-1

SD-1 is a circuit-bent Casio SK-1 that I made in 1999-2000. At the time I’d been learning about Reed Ghazala and watching a VHS full of Devo videos.

I soldered 63 connections onto the circuit board and ran wires out into a vacuum-formed neck and around a bunch of eye-screws. It sort of brings the circuit board, which is instrument scaled, up to the scale of the human hand.

It makes a ton of new noises, but my favorite part is how it starts playing itself when you mess with it enough. Also, bending the demo song can be bizarre.
